New National Partner Provider Assist (formerly Aged Care Specialists) outlined details about the study and travel program they are funding. Under the Provider Assist National Scholarship program, six state scholarships and a national scholarship worth $50,000 will be made available each year. The winners of the state prizes will receive a state scholarship to the value of $2,500 including registration, travel and accommodation to the state conference or equivalent event, $1,000 voucher to be used with the State Industry body (to use towards training, attending workshops or seminars), a trophy, plaque and eligibility to win the national scholarship.

The national winner will receive a scholarship to the value of $35,000 including registration, travel and accommodation to attend ACSA’s 2011 National Conference in Sydney, as well as international travel to the 2 week SAGE Tour, USA in October including attendance at IAHSA Conference, education, training and meeting with key international leaders in aged care. The national winner will also receive a trophy and plaque. Running since 2006, the SAGE Tours are a joint initiative of ACSA, Aged Care Association Australia, the Retirement Village Association of Australia and architect firm, Thomson Adsett. The tours are designed to give industry leaders a global perspective on aged care and retirement living. Past tour groups have visited China, the Netherlands, Malta, the USA, Canada and the UK.

With delays in Medicare claim processing in a number of States, coupled with the Commonwealth changes in evidence requirements in mind; we have expanded our national team to 40 to ensure we fulfil our promise to find and recoup your funding entitlements before they are lost forever.

For example, among other changes, the authority to prove a deceased resident’s financial position for Concessional or Supported status is now restricted to the executor of the will. If a resident had no assets therefore, no need or ability to pay for a will your entitlements are now lost forever even if there was a Power of Attorney or spouse available!

There is a glimmer of hope however this internal DoHA ruling is still in draft form (although already in operation) and we are lobbying the Commonwealth to reconsider their position and will continue to do so until they have reasonably reconsidered their position.

Internally, we have doubled our telephone investigations team to 8 to redo the retrospective claims returned to us and to cover the additional time it takes to obtain the new evidence requirements to minimise the impact to you.
