Meet Della, an ACFI Specialist for Provider Assist, based in Queensland. We asked her what it was like to work at Provider Assist and this is what she told us.
How long have you been in your current job?
17 months
How did you find yourself working in aged care?
I’ve been in aged care for 15 years. I was a young mum at the time I entered the industry, and needed to do part time work due to a young family, so I started doing casual agency work. Most of my work ended up being in aged care, and it’s from there that I developed a passion for it.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love visiting different facilities in different places and meeting new people.
What’s the most rewarding part of what you do?
Getting a better outcome for our frail elderly.
What about the most challenging?
Some sites can be challenging, because they don’t fully understand what we are about. But I find once they reach that understanding, they soon come on board.
Can you tell us about a time when you have been extra proud of your or Provider Assist’s work?
All the time, but most of all when facilities tell me about how they are planning to use the income we have generated for them.
What’s your advice to someone who’s considering a career in aged care?
Go for it, it provides you with job satisfaction. You feel like you are making a difference.
Provider Assist is on a quest to revolutionise aged care. What do you think the industry will look like 10-20 years from now?
Hopefully in a much better and brighter place than it is today. More resident focused, with better outcomes.
