Can ACFI link to AN-ACC?

Can ACFI link to AN-ACC?

Even though some providers are relying on this technical mapping document to do so, The Department have been very clear that any attempt to map ACFI to AN-ACC is futile. Although it’s interesting reading – it was created very early in the development piece as an illustrative aid for development and was not intended for this purpose.

However, there are some interesting parts of the assessment process and claiming process that are more important for AN-ACC than they were in ACFI.

AN-ACC is intended to fund the cost of care and its foundation lies in the principles of late loss, meaning that people retain their functional ability in these four areas the longest. The four late loss ADLs are bed mobility, transfers, eating and toilet use.  The greatest factors impacting the cost of care include:

  • mobility
  • cognitive ability for people with assisted mobility needs
  • function and pressure sore risk for people who are non-mobile
  • wound care, the risk of falling and medical needs such as daily injections.

So while the Department have specifically stated that it’s not advisable to attempt to convert your ACFI claiming profiles to AN-ACC classifications, we can definitely use our claiming profiles as a starting place to begin to investigate if our assessments are comprehensive and clear in those areas that matter more to AN-ACC funding than they do for ACFI.
