Did your Aged Care Service have an ADL overpayment in July 2021?

July is a month each year that is typically associated with a small increase to Aged Care Subsidy and Supplement funding – including ACFI. Provider Assist published a link to the increased rates – which you can check out here.

In our review of Payment Statements for July 2021 and August 2021, as part of our Revenue Executive Service and MyVitals application, we noticed that some Providers were paid their ACFI supplement at $1 per day above the rates that the Government had published (https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/schedule-of-subsidies-and-supplements-for-aged-care). On further review, we found that in the Subsidy and Supplements section of the Payment Statement, some Providers had the certified rate for Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Medium listed as $85.28, rather than the approved $84.28. This does not apply to all Aged Care services – as it looks like Services Australia corrected this early in the month.

Services Australia have acknowledged the error to Provider Assist as a result of Provider Assist asking the question and have confirmed that they are rectifying this.

How will this affect your Aged Care service?

If on the July Payment Statement your ADL M rate is listed as $85.28, and you have Residents with an M score for ADL, expect to have an adjustment listed on the August Payment Statement. This adjustment will “reverse” the incorrect amount paid in July 2021, and “re-pay” the correct Adjusted Subsidy amount. The net effect should be a reduction in the total Adjusted Subsidy amount paid for the Entitlement Month of July 2021 for affected Residents. The reduction will be for $1 per day that Resident was in care in July 2021 and had an M score for ADL.

*In MyVitals – you may see a slight increase in your average ACFI data – due to this increased payment.
