Will I be charged a fee for submitting Reclassifications or Reconsiderations?

You may have received a notification similar to the below when completing one of the most important tasks of submitting an AN-ACC Reclassification or Reconsideration.

Notifications like this, when submitting Reclassifications or Reconsiderations through the My Aged Care portal, indicate that there is a charge or fee that comes along with such requests.

So – is there a fee for Reclassification or Reconsideration requests?
The short answer is – no. The longer answer is – no, not yet: but this does not mean it will not be introduced at some point in time.

Let’s look at the facts:

  1. The Classification Principles 2014 that are currently in force as of 1 October 2022 do not legislate a charge or fee for AN-ACC Reclassification or Reconsideration requests. See Chapter 3: Part 14 – Reclassification of care recipients.
  2. The current AN-ACC Funding Guide, published in December 2022, does not currently have any fees or charges listed or referenced under either Reclassification (page 23) or Reconsideration (page 31).
  3. A July 2022 Government Fact Sheet Can I ask for a Resident Reclassification under AN-ACC? stated that while there was no charge under the Shadow Assessment Classifications, the decision to implement a fee once AN-ACC was implemented in October 2022, was a decision for (what was at the time) the incoming Government.

Despite the alerts that may appear for you when submitting a Reclassification or Reconsideration in the My Aged Care Portal, at this point in time the current guiding legislation (the Classification Principles 2014) and additional guidance found on the Department of Health & Aged Care indicate that there is no fee associated with these requests in place. However, the door has been left open for a fee to be implemented at a future date. If this occurs, of course we will be sure to give you the down-low on it!
